An Ilkley resident made an emotional return journey to the Harz region of Germany, some 70 years after her first visit.
German-born Edith Ridgway - whose husband, Mike, is an Ilkley parish councillor, was evacuated together with her mother to Rudershausen in 1944 prior to the Allied advance through her home area in the Rhineland.
Gifts were exchanged with the Burgermeisters of both towns and the picture shows Edith giving cakes from Betty’s of Ilkley, Yorkshire Crisps and other local gifts from Yorkshire to Annegret Lange, Burgermeister of Rudershausen, M Jacobi and Franz Jacobi, Burgermeister of Rhumspringe.
