A historic four-star hotel had to be evacuated overnight after a fire broke out in a kitchen.
Firefighters were called to the Marriott Hollins Hall Hotel in Baildon just before 2am, where a fire had started in a kitchen area of the hotel’s leisure centre.
They said when they got there, around 130 guests had already been brought out from their hotel rooms and were gathered outside the building.
Watch Commander Jonathan Earl, of Shipley fire station, said a sprinkler had been set off, and helped to put out the flames, but that the place had been badly water-damaged.
He said crews stayed around for more than two hours, sweeping water out of the building and waiting for an engineer to come out and reset the fire alarm system.
He said: “The guests were well looked after by the hotel. There were a few complementary drinks being served.”
Mr Earl said the fire had been started by a frying range which had been left on.
