People are being urged to have their say about how children’s centres in the Bradford district could change in the future.

Bradford Council is inviting parents, carers and staff to help them prioritise the services the district’s 41 centres offer.

The consultation will take place in June, and everyone who uses children’s centres will get an opportunity to comment through specially-arranged events and an online survey.

The consultation will also involve staff who work at children’s centres and organisations and professions who provide their services, such as midwifery, health visiting and debt and benefits advice.

In February, the Council set aside £5.4 million in its budget to protect children’s centres and other early years services from cuts.

George McQueen, Bradford Council’s assistant director of access and inclusion, said: “This really important initiative is about engaging with our local communities.

“We want as many people as possible to contribute and help us prioritise what we offer at children’s centres in the future. We are approaching the consultation with a completely open mind.”

Councillor Ralph Berry, Bradford Council’s portfolio holder for children’s services, said: “We know how important early education and support is in children’s long-term development, which is why the Council has identified children’s centres as a priority.

“We are committed to focusing our resources as effectively as we can so that centres provide what local people need.

“This is why we are seeking the views of centres and their parent groups across the district to help us look forward and make the best use of the resources available to us.”

The online survey will be available to complete from June 17 on the Bradford Council website at bradford.gov.uk/bmdc/consultations.
