Two men serving long jail sentences for their roles in a multi-million pound Bradford-based drugs plot have been forced to sell their homes and other assets after together reaping more than £340,000 from their crimes, a court heard yesterday.
Shanawaz Nazar, 30, of Rotherham, was jailed for 11 years at Bradford Crown Court in February last year and Anthony Horsfield, 35, of Doncaster, was locked up for six and a half years.
They were among five men, including three from the Bradford area, imprisoned for their roles in the conspiracy. The men were arrested in 2010 after officers from the West Yorkshire Police Organised Crime Group searched addresses across West and South Yorkshire and seized drugs-contaminated cash.
More than 50kg of Class A drugs, with a potential street value of about £10.5m, were discovered.
Yesterday, Nazar and Horsfield were brought back to court from prison for a hearing under the Proceeds of Crime Act to claw back their ill-gotten gains.
Judge John Potter ruled that Nazar’s criminal benefit was £173,367. His available assets, made up of equity in a house and a sale of a motorcycle, came to £21,580.
Horsfield’s benefit figure was £166,700 and his available assets, from a house sale and cash seized by the police, were £13,201.
Both men were given six months to pay up or serve longer behind bars.
