So far we’ve had a 15,000ft parachute jumper, a dress-down day at a supermarket giant, charity dinners and generous donations from major Yorkshire societies.

But we want to hear from all of you who are helping to smash our £1 million target in our Bradford Telegraph & Argus Crocus Cancer Appeal.

Earlier this month, we announced our biggest fundraising drive in more than a decade, which could further cement the city’s world-class reputation in developing new cancer treatments and make its ground-breaking work to fight the disease ten times faster than before.

We want to buy Bradford University’s Institute of Cancer Therapeutics (ICT) a new, high-tech mass spectrometer, which could hold the key to its scientists making a vital discovery in the war on cancer.

This will allow scientists to study tens of thousands of proteins, which play a key role in cancer and could hold the breakthrough to developing new, targeted treatments without the horrendous side effects of chemotherapy.

Since we revealed our campaign on Wednesday, May 1, you have been getting involved by coming up with your own fundraising ideas.

And we are encouraging schools, businesses and community groups across the district to embrace our appeal by organising fundraising events, whether it’s something as small as a jumble sale, a non-uniform day or cake sale to high-adrenaline feats like skydives or bungee jumps or running a marathon.

For a bit of inspiration, here are some examples of fundraising ideas so far: Staff at Morrisons’ Bradford headquarters ‘dressed down for a pound’ to raise an impressive £1,846 for our appeal.

Workers at the supermarket giant’s Gain Lane head office, which has 2,000 members of staff, threw their weight behind our campaign by swapping their business wear for smart, casual clothes and paying £1 for the privilege.

The Pakistan Society of West Yorkshire visited the T&A offices in Hall Ings to present a £500 cheque to the £1 million campaign – and vowed to continue the fundraising when the society holds its glittering annual dinner in August.

Hundreds of guests at Yorkshire Sikh Forum’s annual Vaisakhi dinner at the Aagrah in Thornbury were urged to help our appeal and donated cash during a bucket collection.

Cyclists have been signing up for our campaign partner Yorkshire Cancer Research’s (YCR) Dales Rider event, which will see riders tackle either a 26 or 65-mile course around the countryside, starting in Ilkley, on Sunday, September 1.

Many of those have chosen to raise cash for the T&A Bradford Crocus Cancer Appeal.

And Bradford businessman Mohammed Ishfaq became the first person to stage a daredevil feat for our campaign by taking part in a 15,000ft parachute jump last week.

The 58-year-old has so far collected more than £450.
