Keighley’s first children’s librarian has died aged 78.
Jean Simpson took up the post when it was created in 1959 and two years later was instrumental in developing a purpose-built extension to Keighley children’s library.
Evening story sessions, visiting speakers and films based on famous books were used to encourage reading.
After local government reorganisation in 1974, Miss Simpson represented the Keighley area on a Bradford young people’s library team.
She had started work at Keighley Library in 1951 and spent her working life there.
