Jobseekers keen to find work have been showing their skills in a Bradford city centre shop window to entice would-be employers.

In an initiative derived from a similar project in Denmark, the Unique Boutique concept involved jobseekers appearing in the shop window of recruitment consultants Candelisa People on North Parade for 15 minutes each.

Employers could then decide whether they wanted to employ them or not. If they do, they do not have to pay any recruitment fees.

Behind the idea is Jane Vincent, managing director of Candelisa People.

Those appearing in the window included Jason Maxted, of Bingley, looking for office work, Albert Nyanzu, a former car valeter who wants administration work, and export manager Pedro Lima.

Miss Vincent said: “We are in business to charge companies to find them people. But at the moment we have got some good candidates who so want to work with good skills. They are struggling to find work.

“If it worked in Denmark it could work in Bradford.”

Mr Maxted has been temping but he wants a business administration role.

He said; “I think this is a really fresh approach and I like this so was very happy to be part of the day.”

Mr Nyanzu is looking for a job after being made redundant. He said: “I wanted to be involved to hopefully get a permanent job in Bradford.”

Mr Lima is an experienced export manager now looking for a sales role with an international company, and said: “I agreed to do this because I’m a sales person and thought it was a good idea. There was no reason not to do it.”

Daniel Pawlik, who is looking for an office-based job, said: “I want to stand out and for people to notice me and offer me work.”
