A couple have spoke of their relief and joy after their laptop containing thousands of photos of their late son, which was stolen, was returned to them.

Graham and Nancy Wood feared they had forever lost the images of their son Gary, 31, who died last year, when a laptop was stolen from their home in Felcourt Drive, Holme Wood, Bradford, last Tuesday.

The couple made a plea through the Telegraph & Argus for the laptop’s return. A day later the couple heard a loud knock at their front door, but when Mrs Wood, 53, opened it expecting to see police investigating their case, no-one was there. Instead she saw a shopping bag containing the laptop.

They have thanked the Police, the Holme Wood community and the T&A for helping them. Mr Wood, 56, a warehouse operative, said: “The police had told us they were in the area on Friday night and were going to pop round, so when we heard the knock we thought it was them.

“We had other things taken like the TV, but they can be replaced, the laptop cannot. The police have been brilliant. Obviously they can’t drop the investigation, but we’re just happy we’ve got the photos back. The T&A, the Holme Wood community and the police have all been fantastic.”

The couple said the burglary had shaken them up, as they were asleep when their house was raided. But they feel it shows that even burglars can have a conscience. Mrs Wood said: “I would like to thank the person who brought the laptop back to us. It might not have been the person who stole it.”

Mr Wood said: “There were so many memories on that laptop, and now we’ve got them back. We are going back the images up now to make sure this never happens again.”
