An off-road motorcycle rider has been killed in a crash with a car in a country lane in Bradford.
Police, ambulance and fire crews were called to Tyersal Lane, near Holme Wood, at 6.50pm on Saturday.
On arrival they found the motorcyclist had already died of his injuries.
The man’s identity has yet to be released by police who were trying to trace relatives yesterday.
The male driver of the car, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was treated at the scene for shock, but was otherwise uninjured.
A Yorkshire Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We received a call at 6.44pm to Tyersal Lane after reports of a cross bike that had collided with a car.
“We sent a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance to the scene.”
Tyersal Lane runs from Holme Wood though a rural route towards Pudsey, and goes from an adopted road to a narrow dirt track.
Leeds City Councillor Josie Jarosz (Lab, Pudsey) last night said she was unaware of the tragedy, but she added: “I don’t really know the details, but obviously I have great sympathy for the family of whoever has died.”
She said that although Tyersal Lane was an adopted road, it was popular with off-road bikers, and the issue regularly came up with meetings with the area’s Neighbourhood Policing Team.
“It is a road we ask the police to keep an eye on. On a nice day in the summer when people have their windows open they can hear bikes in that area quite often,” she said Nearby Black Carr Woods is also reportedly popular with off-road riders.
The duty communications officer at West Yorkshire Police was yesterday unable to give any details of the investigation into the fatality.
A Coroner’s inquest will be held at a future date due to the circumstances of the man’s death.
