A wide variety of different events, attracting thousands of revellers between them, helped create the perfect weekend for Bradford.
The annual Lord Mayor’s Parade got the city dancing on Saturday as hundreds of participants from schools and community groups travelled through the city centre in a variety of elaborate costumes.
It was the final event of Lord Mayor Dale Smith’s year in office, and was the last big fundraising push for his Sprinkle Sunshine Appeal.
To match the theme many of the costumes had a sun or summer theme. Coun Smith said: “Luckily the rain held off and as the parade went around the city it brought a bit of sunshine with it.”
The parade started and ended in City Park, and later in the day this was also the venue for the final day of the Urban Festival.
Highlights included a human jukebox – where passers-by could select from a number of songs that a live band would then perform, and modern dance displays. In the evening the park became an open air nightclub.
And yesterday City Park hosted a religious gathering, as the Festival of the Holy Spirit attracted hundreds of Christians over the course of the afternoon. The day culminated in a mass act of worship at 5pm.
