A new crop of “stars of the future” were chosen yesterday in the final stage of Bradford’s 2013 Modelsearch competition.
More than 100 budding catwalk stars strutted their stuff in front of five judges at the city’s Kirkgate Shopping Centre, watched by crowds of cheering onlookers. The competition, in its 12th year is run in conjunction with the Telegraph & Argus, the Kirkgate Centre, and DK Model Agency.
Caroline Godber, of DK Model Agency, said: “I think it is a really good year. It’s been really hard to choose from the finalists.
“There is a great level of talent in Bradford. The finalists have been coming with great confidence and definitely some potential for future careers.”
There were four age categories, four to six, seven to ten, 11 to 15 and 16 plus with male and female winners in each.
The winners as chosen by the panel of judges were: Four to six: Emiley Allwood and Charlie Dooling.
Seven to ten: Niamh Jones and Panashe Chipayi.
Eleven to 15: Amber Hussain and Jack Allwood.
Sixteen plus: Gintare Buzokaite and Jason Futhee.
The finalists had also been put to the public vote for the T&A Readers’ Choice category with the winners being: Four to six: Bridget Ann Mordue and Sonny Hughes Whiteley.
Seven to ten: Kelsey Lamb and Bayleigh Thorp.
Eleven to 15: Lauren Liddemore and Joshua-Ian Appleyard.
Sixteen plus: Gemma Foulds and Jake Geddes.
Kirkgate Centre manager Catherine Riley, who was one of the judges, said: “It’s been very tough to judge. The standards are improving every year; the contestants are presenting themselves very well and the confidence levels are fantastic.” Another of the judges, photographer Paul Hayley, said: “They all did really well. I was looking at their eyes, expressions and also what they were doing at the back of the stage after doing their piece.”
Robyn Morrison, crowned Europe’s Perfect Woman, was also on the judging panel. She said: “I have judged this competition for the last couple of years and I think we have discovered some really good talent.”
Shopping vouchers for £500 were divided between a male and female winner in each of the four age categories. And DK Models will potentially choose one male and one female from all the finalists to go on their books.
