Bradford’s weekend got off to a rocking start last night as the Urban Festival got into full swing.
A variety of acts entertained audiences in City Park from 5pm onwards until the main event – an open air night club – got people in the mood for dancing. Master of ceremonies Chris Benson said: “There’s lots of micro-acts entertaining all around City Park.
“Even if you’re just passing for a coffee, come and have a look at what’s on offer.”
Among last night’s entertainment was a comedy act that looked just like a band, carried out a soundcheck and pretended to be setting up for a performance.
As about 50 people waited for the Dot Comedy Soundcheck ‘band’ to start, Mr Benson said: “What they don’t know is that they are watching the act!”
Dot Comedy kept up the pretence with random drumming, constant movement on the stage, and by chatting to the crowd. Nearby, Dukes Box, a half-caravan made into a dukebox and crammed with a band, played tunes on demand.
The Urban Festival carries on today from noon with games, music and comedy. The openair nightclub is on again, between 8.30pm and 10.15pm.
