Bradford College top achievers will be joined by local and national businesses on Monday to celebrate success at the Higher Education awards, which recognise both academic and personal achievements.

The event will be hosted by college principal and chief executive Michele Sutton who will be joined by representatives from sponsors including Bingley-based Emerald Publishing, Incorporated Council of Law Reporting, National Media Museum and Naylor Wintersgill accountants, Bradford; Nikon Optical UK Ltd, Oxford University Press and Turner & Townsend, of Horsforth.

Guest speakers are Hilary Roberts, head curator of photography at the Imperial War Museum, and Chris Waterman, executive director of Investors in Families and creative director of Diagram. Among students being recognised are first class honours student Farrah Shah, who scooped the art school prize for outstanding academic ability in digital technologies, and Christopher Scrivener (above), a student on the foundation degree in health related exercise and fitness course.

Christopher who aims to become a PE teacher, started to lose his sight at the age of 14 and is the first recipient of the John Benson Award, established by The Halifax Society for the Blind to recognise achievement in young people who are blind or partially sighted.
