A Scout camp in Bingley was given a makeover thanks to workers who took part in a national day of volunteering.
Staff from Yorkshire Water and Bradford-based social housing group Incommunities joined more than 12,000 workers across the country for Give and Gain Day.
They transformed Blackhills Scout Campsite, on Lee Lane, by clearing a pond, painting, dry stone walling, cutting back overgrown shrubs, and rebuilding damaged campfire bases.
The day was organised by Business in the Community which encourages thousands of people across the world to spend a working day volunteering for good causes in their community.
Since 2008, more than 60,000 people in 31 countries around the world have taken part.
Joiners, plumbers, estate workers and administrative staff from Incommunities were among those getting a taste for the great outdoors.
Toby Heslop, of Incommunities’ human resources team, said: “We were set a big challenge to transform the campsite in one day. But everyone was up for it and keen to give something back for this important youth facility.”
Geraldine Howley, group chief executive at Incommunities, said: “I am proud of our track record of volunteering work and continued support for Business in the Community.
“Challenges like this are a great way of using employees’ skills and time away from the workplace to support the very communities that we work with and support.
“As an ‘Investor in People’ employer we actively encourage staff to get involved in volunteering activities .”
Also getting stuck in were 40 employees of Yorkshire Water who split into two teams. Anne Reed, who co-ordinates Yorkshire Water’s volunteering programme, said: “We recognise that we’re in a great position to make a huge difference to the environments we operate in.”
