A golf day in aid of a man who was paralysed by a rare infection has raised four times its original target.

The event, at Ilkley Golf Club, set out to raise £1,000 but has actually raised more than £4,000, with donations still coming in.

Money raised will go to the Callum Hall Trust, set up by 20 year old Yeadon student Callum Hall, who was paralysed after stepping on a sea urchin while on holiday in Greece last year.

Callum, who is being supported by a number of fundraising events, is trying to raise cash for continuing physiotherapy, care and special equipment as he fights to walk again.

The event was organised by friends from Northumbria University where Callum was training to be a PE teacher.

One of the organisers Sam Dale said: “The day went brilliantly, obviously the weather helped.

"Fifteen teams of four played golf and an extra 11 people joined them all for dinner afterwards.

" The raffle and auction were then drawn, some of the auctions prizes including signed sporting memorabilia and a holiday in the lakes.

"The day raised just over £4000 and donations are still coming in on the back of the event.”

Meanwhile hundreds of pounds were raised by a team from The Station Pub in Guiseley who took part in the Leeds Half Marathon at the weekend.

The pub has launched its own fund-raising campaign and has raised £3,000 for his appeal.
