A pirate, a sea captain and the Pied Piper will be leading guided walks for children during Walk to School Week.
Five schools across the Kirklees district will be visited by a storyteller who will be encouraging children to make their way to school on foot.
They include Norristhorpe Junior and Infant School on Wednesday and Roberttown School on Thursday.
Councillor Cathy Scott, of Kirklees Council, said: “Walking to school regularly is a fantastic way to encourage an active lifestyle.
“And it is a great opportunity to teach your children vital road safety skills.
“Teachers also report that those pupils who walk to school are more attentive once they reach their desks – and let’s not forget that it’s fun too.”
