Yorkshire Water warned households in Haworth to be vigilant following reports of septic tank contents or slurry being discharged illegally into a public sewer.
Haworth resident Jens Hislop said letters were delivered to homes in the Mill Hey area.
The letters said someone had allegedly dumped the waste into the sewer via a manhole and pointed out that such material could only be disposed of at a licensed treatment facility.
A Yorkshire Water spokesman added: “In this instance we’re responding to reports of someone discharging silage from a tanker into a manhole. It’s in the interests of our customers to ensure we put a stop to this.”
