A pensioner who takes pride in her own home has demanded an eyesore garden next-door is cleared.
Joan Jessop, of Braithwaite, Keighley, is angry that an old boiler and furniture has been dumped in the garden of the house in Braithwaite Walk. Councillor Jan Smithies (Lab, Keighley West) said the garden was one of many in Keighley in a poor state.
She has called for changes to the law so councils can force landlords, tenants or private householders to clean-up unsightly gardens. Mrs Jessop, 65, a tenant of Incommunities, said the semi-detached house next door was owned by a private landlord and the tenant had recently moved out.
She said: “Everything’s been dumped from inside the house – sideboards, a boiler.”
Carol Morgan, environmental health manager for Bradford Council, said it had received no specific request to clear rubbish from the garden at the home in Braithwaite Walk.
