A piece of Yeadon green space is being given extra protection from developers.
Leeds City Council has acted to protect Chapel Hill from any future threat.
The council has agreed to put the site, at Harper Terrace, on its community asset register. The added protection means that if the land is ever put up for sale, local people will have a six month time frame to bid to buy the land and keep it in community use.
The site is currently used for sport by local Scout and Guide groups. It was nominated for protection by the 16th Airedale Yeadon Methodist Scout Group.
The decision was welcomed by Otley and Yeadon councillor Ryk Downes.
He said: “It’s a very well-used site by Scout and Guide groups as well as local youths who come to play football on it in the warmer months. It would be unfortunate for the town if this site were to fall prey to developers, so the extra protection offered by the community asset register is excellent news.”
