Football fever hit Bradford’s Kirkgate Centre today as Bantams’ fans clamoured for a glimpse of the League Two play-off trophy.

Supporters posed for pictures next to the coveted cup during its brief visit to the city centre, as they spoke of their excitement for Bradford City’s return to Wembley for the clash against Northampton Town on Saturday.

Friends Dominic Hanson, 18, of Wyke, and Kyle Holt, 19, of Idle, were among those who stopped to have their picture taken with the trophy.

Dominic, who was at Wembley for City’s Capital One Cup final 5-0 defeat against Premier League Swansea in February, said: “I think we have more of a chance this time.

“It was disappointing we got beat, but the fans were amazing. I’ll be there again this time round and I can’t wait.

“We’ve been waiting for promotion for so long, so hopefully we can do it!”

Kyle added: “I’m excited, I’m looking forward to it.

“It was great to see the trophy. The result at Wembley was disappointing last time, but hopefully we can do it this time round.”

Kelly Karpow, 28, posed for a photograph next to the trophy with her four-year-old neice Summer Morton.

She said: “Her dad Sam’s a massive fan. He’s gutted, because he’s going to Cyprus tomorrow which means he’ll miss out on going to Wembley.

“But I’m sure he’ll be pleased Summer’s had her picture taken with the trophy.”

Another fan looking forward to a Wembley trip was Philippa Jones, 34, of Baildon, who will be travelling to London with a group of relatives, including visiting from Australia.

The Capital One Cup final was her four-year-old son Isaac’s first game.

Speaking after standing next to the closely-guarded trophy, she said: “There was such a good atmosphere last time. The fans were amazing - you’d have though City were winning by looking at the fans.

“It’s been great to see the trophy, it looks really impressive. It’s a shame we weren’t allowed to touch it, but hopefully the team will get to hold it on Saturday!”
