Bradford Council has moved to placate competitors who took part in last year’s City Run by offering half-price entry into the 2013 event.
The extra incentive, announced as details of this year’s event were released, is aimed at any runners who were unable to get an accurate time in the 2012 race.
Many competitors complained after runners were sent the wrong way, shaving 500m off the 5k race and cutting the 10k down to 9k.
Now, the Council is hoping this year’s event – which is on Sunday October 27 – runs smoothly after announcing a new partnership with the Bradford Athletics Network.
As well as developing the City Run, it is planned that the new partnership will allow closer working between the Council and Bradford Athlet-ics Network and deliver on a range of activities and projects throughout the year, further developing clubs and infrastructure and allowing people greater opportunities to participate in running.
Coun Andrew Thornton, the Council's Executive member for Environment, Sport and Sustainability, said: “I am delighted to be able to announce this new partnership for the City Run.
“It’s a perfect example of how the Council and voluntary groups in the district can work together to achieve shared goals.
“As well as developing this event the partnership will enable closer working to deliver a range of activities and projects throughout the year.”
Mike Moss, chairman of Bradford Athletics Network (BAN) said: “BAN are delighted to be working with the Council in delivering this event.
“Running and athletics are fantastic sports that people from all walks of life can become involved in.
“We hope to see many people participating in the event in October and continue with their running throughout the year.”
The City Run will start and finish in City Park, before following a route around the college and university. Competitors can choose to run a 5k, 10k or half marathon.
Chip timing will give runners the chance to get an exact time for the distance they choose.
Details of how runners from last year can get their half-price entry for 2013 will be released by the Council in the next few weeks, said a spokesman.
