The Rotary Club of Ilkley Wharfedale has held its annual Know Your Blood Pressure event in conjunction with the Stroke Association.
Volunteer nurses and members of the Rotary Club of Ilkley assisted the Ilkley Wharfedale Club. In total 93 people had their blood pressure checked during the day. Five people were found to have a raised blood pressure and were advised to contact their GP.
The Stroke Association believes that 40 per cent of the 150,000 strokes that occur in the UK annually could be prevented if people with high blood pressure could be identified and treated. It is thought that 80 per cent of men and 66 per cent of women with high blood pressure are not being treated.
As high blood pressure generally has no symptoms it is important to have blood pressure checked periodically.
