The funeral of a Second World War veteran who went on to become the head of schools in Keighley and East Morton will be held tomorrow.
Cyril Hood (left) was a teacher before being called up to serve in the war. In 1943 he joined the Combined Operations Command with the Royal Signals, and took part in the D Day Landings.
He returned to teaching in 1946 at Rastrick and then Brighouse. He became head of East Morton Junior School, Bingley. He went on to take the Headships at Parkwood School, Keighley; Grange School, Keighley; and Old Earth School, Elland. He died peacefully at Calderdale Hospital on April 30, aged 90. A family spokesman said he was ‘loved and admired’. His funeral will be held at St Anne’s Church, Southowram, at 2.30pm.
