Eight acts are tuning up to go head-to-head in a battle to share a bill with Primal Scream, The Human League and The Fratellis.
More than 130 groups applied for a slot at this year’s Bingley Music Live, with eight finalists now to compete for four prize places for the festival’s Emerging Talent Competition.
The winners will play in front of a crowd of more than 15,000 at the Bradford Council-run event at Myrtle Park between August 30 and September 1.
The shortlisted performers – Marc and Abi, Apollo Junction, Jade Helliwell, Quentin’s Basement, St Somebody, The Runners, Down Radio, and Redemtion – will try to impress a team of judges and audience with three songs at Victoria Hall in Keighley on Friday, May 31, at 7pm.
Marc and Abi, of Yeadon and Wibsey, last month played at the legendary Cavern club in Liverpool for Rock The House, a yearly music competition founded by MP Mike Weatherly.
The final will also feature a set by guest band Holy Moly And The Crackers, who have already been confirmed to play at Bingley Music Live. The Newcastle outfit play a mix of sea shanties, hillbilly lullabies, blues and gypsy dances.
Tickets for the final cost £3, with £1 from each sale being donated to music therapy charity Nordoff Robbins and Teenage Cancer Trust.
Councillor Andrew Thornton, Bradford Council’s executive member responsible for leisure, said: “There was an extremely high standard of entries for Bingley Music Live’s Emerging Talent Competition and I would like to thank all of the acts who made a submission.
“I hope people will show their support for the eight unsigned finalists by attending this concert, which will also be raising funds for two very good causes.”
The full list of acts confirmed for this year’s festival is: Primal Scream, The Human League, The Fratellis, The Cribs, The Wonder Stuff, The Lake Poets, The Temperance Movement, Summer Camp, Lucy Spraggan, Charlie Brown, Loveable Rogues, The Struts, Natasha Haws, Holy Moly And The Crackers, The Electric Swing Circus, and Rose & The Howling North.
Last year’s festival was shortlisted for the UK Festival Awards Best Medium Sized Festival.
