An enterprising group of youngsters are hoping to scoop £10,000 in a competition to get people thinking differently about the UK’s high streets and city centres.
Six 17-year-old friends at Belle Vue Boys School, in Heaton, Bradford, have entered the Test Town 2013 contest with their scheme for selling personalised bracelets with engravings in either English or Arabic.
It is part of the E3 Bradford initiative which aims to develop, inspire and empower young people to make a positive contribution to economic success, supported by Bradford Council and the Bradford Chamber of Commerce.
The top ten entries will be given £1,000 and four weeks of support to try to scoop the £10,000, by setting up their business.
Sohail Hussain, Aadil Kasam, Amar Hussain, Abdullah Butt, Danyaal Butt and Hamzah Ali felt their idea would appeal to the Bradford public.
Sohail said: “Our scheme shows there is still a need for the high street, and in Bradford in particular, and people will still use it if the right goods are available to buy.”
