A row of back-to-back terraced houses which chart changes in family life over a century has opened at the Industrial Museum in Eccleshill. The Gaythorne Row workers’ cottages offer a window into the home life of workers through the decades from the 1870s to the 1970s and tell the social history of Bradford by showing the changes in people’s living conditions during that time.
You can try your hand at futuristic urban games, listen and dance to contemporary music and be swept away by spontaneous street theatre at the Urban Festival from Wednesday to Saturday in City Park. On Friday and Saturday night, the park turns into a giant intergenerational open-air nightclub, while Saturday showcases dance, music and computer games.
Museums at Night takes place at Harewood House, Leeds, on Thursday with an evening of tours, talks and demonstrations. You can experience this beautiful house at dusk, with refreshments on the magnificent Terrace at sunset.
Take your family down to see local schoolchildren launch a major European flood management conference with a live performance around the Mirror Pool in City Park today from 6.30pm to 7.30pm. Flood Aware Children is the opening event of FloodResilienCity, and the performance will feature Year 5 children from Crossley Hall and St James Primary Schools who have researched water themes and the Bradford Beck river system.
See local children and adults parade through the city centre to finish in City Park for The Lord Mayor’s Carnival Parade. Starting at 12.30pm on Saturday, why not join in the festivities, listing to great live music, and just soak up the atmosphere. The Sprinkle Sunshine Appeal raises funds to help local charities.
