A row over work to City Hall’s roof shows no sign of abating.
Conservatives at Bradford Council had raised concerns that scaffolding was up at the landmark Council building before the Council’s Executive had approved a £400,000 spend on repairs.
Last week, while giving the go-ahead for the work, Council leader councillor David Green said in some circumstances, waiting for things to be rubber-stamped could “cause damage or impinge on people’s safety”.
Now, Councillor Rebecca Poulsen, Conservative spokesman for regeneration, has said she was “stunned” at Coun Green’s comments.
She said: “I am aware of other instances of officers appearing to spend significant sums of council money without the legitimate authority to do so and I shall be writing to Coun Green to seek urgent clarification as to how he thinks the council should be operating.“
