A 100ft crane is dominating the skyline in Haworth as Yorkshire Water carry out a £1.3m repair project.
But completion of the scheme has been delayed by a month after the Bradford-based water company experienced contaminated ground conditions from an old scouring works.
A spokesman for Yorkshire said engineers had been working on the project since September to replace a collapsed sewer and construct a new underground pumping station.
Sculptor, Craig Dyson, contacted the company after seeing raw sewage seeping out into the yard of his studios in Belle Isle Road.
Mr Dyson said he noticed a drain overflowing and put it down to the heavy downpours. He said he also noticed a slight stench and when the rain cleared saw the drain was still overflowing.
The collapsed sewer which ran under an embankment was causing area flooding so the company has since replaced it with a new one along Cryer Meadows.
“The sewer has been constructed and we’ve now almost completed the work on the underground pumping station in the cul-de-sac of Cryer Meadows which started in November,” said the spokesman.
He said they had hoped to complete the work by the end of April. “However, we have experienced contaminated ground conditions from an old scouring works in the area which has slowed us down. We’ll now be complete by the end of May.
“We’d like to thank local residents and businesses for their ongoing support and reassure them that we’re working hard to complete everything as quickly as possible.”
