A woman fought off a man who tried to rip her bag from her shoulder in a daytime strike in Ilkley.
The 19-year-old was walking up Wells Walk at about 10.55pm on Wednesday when the suspect approached her from behind.
He tried to grab the bag, but the woman managed to keep hold of it until a passing dog walker shouted at the man to leave her alone.
The suspect, who ran off along Wells Walk towards the town centre, is described as a white man aged in his early 20s, 5ft 9ins tall and skinny, wearing a black hooded top with a grey logo across the chest, dark baggy jeans and white trainers.
Officers would like to speak to the dog walker and anyone else who may have information. Call Detective Constable Kate Edwards on 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
