Six fire crews battled a blaze at a Guiseley mansion early yesterday.
Rawdon firefighters were alerted at 1.50am to the fire at the £1 million Victorian house, which stands in secluded grounds.
Greenlaw Manor, a sprawling house with an annexed swimming pool is unoccupied, and undergoing extensive renovations as its owners try to sell it.
Fire officers first had to use bolt cutters to get through the chained gates.
A crew from Shipley was second to arrive, followed by Stanningley, Idle, Cookridge and Bradford – which brought its pump equipped with a ladder. While the fire swept through most of the building, quick use of pumps prevented the destruction of the property and confined damage to large orangery and other buildings attached to the stone-built house, a West Yorkshire Fire Service spokesman said.
Some crews were damping down the building several hours after the blaze was put out.
