A public consultation into whether Bradford should join a new ‘super-council’ for the whole of West Yorkshire will soon come to an end.
The combined authority would draw extra powers from Government and mean more decisions affecting the county being decided at a regional level. The body would also take on the role of the transport authority.
Earlier this year, bosses at Bradford, Leeds, Kirklees, Caderdale and Wakefield councils all agreed to take the plan to the next stage – a public consultation, which ends on May 17.
If, following the consultation period, a new combined authority is agreed by individual councils, the final decision will be taken by the Government. This could allow the new body to be in operation by next April.
