The National Trust has applied for permission to replace an “inefficient and outdated” boiler at East Riddlesden Hall.
The charity wants to build a domestic-sized gas boiler and flue in the grade II listed Bothy building in the grounds of the hall, which was used to provide accommodation for the hall’s servants in the 17th century. It is now home to the hall’s shop, reception and tea rooms.
A boiler in the main hall currently heats the building, but is only running at 55 per cent efficiency. The Trust plans to eventually replace that boiler, but in the meantime will set up a separate boiler in the Bothy building to reduce the amount of heat lost as it flows between the two buildings.
If their planning application to Bradford Council is approved, the new appliance would be located on a wall on the first floor.
