Shows by the Royal Opera House and the Royal Ballet are to be beamed direct from London to Bradford’s big screen this summer.
This year marks the first of a new five-year commitment from BP to support the live and free screenings from the Royal Opera House beamed direct from Covent Garden to Bradford, Leeds and 20 other UK locations.
The three shows will be presented by Ilkley-born Alan Titchmarsh (above).
The shows are Kenneth Macmillan’s ballet Mayerling, which will be screened on June 13, from 7.30pm; Puccini’s opera La Rondine, on July 11, at 7.30pm; and Puccini’s Tosca, on July 18, also at 7.30pm.
Kasper Holten, director of The Royal Opera House, said: “These al fresco summer big screenings, now in their 26th year, are a highlight of our performing season. To be able to offer world-class performances absolutely free and to so many venues across the UK fills us with pride.
“We first screened a live performance in Covent Garden Piazza, 1987, and this year we’re broadcasting to 22 venues.”
