The process to merge Bradford into a super Church of England diocese covering all of West Yorkshire and the Dales has moved one step closer.
The proposal by the Church of England’s Dioceses Commission, accepted locally in March, will be put before the General Synod in July, the Archbishop of York Dr John Sentamu has decided.
The ruling body will vote on whether to support the scheme as it affects Bradford, Ripon and Leeds, Sheffield and Blackburn dioceses.
They all voted in favour of the draft scheme progressing, but Wakefield diocese has voted against.
