The owners of a Drighlington pub caught without a TV licence have been ordered to pay £270 by magistrates.
The company Barock Inns Limited, which operates the Malt Shovel pub on Whitehall Road, Drighlington, Bradford, was fined £70 for the offence of using a TV without a licence on the business premises.
The company was also ordered to pay £180 costs and a £20 victim surcharge at the hearing, at Leeds Magistrates’ Court.
After the case Lucy Baird, TV Licensing spokesman for the north, said: “We appreciate these are tough times for businesses, but to be fair to the majority who do pay the licence fee, we have to take action against those who watch TV illegally. “ Any business that shows television, as it is being broadcast, whether for customers’ use or in staff areas, must be covered by a valid TV licence.
