A man who lost control and stabbed a love rival has been jailed for three years.
Patrick Smith, 22, of Westroyd Avenue, Shipley, pleaded guilty to wounding Sam Myler with intent.
Prosecutor Abigail Langford said Smith had been in a relationship with a young woman called Amy Kendall, who historically also had a relationship with Mr Myler.
She said that on the evening of December 20 last year Mr Myler had been to Smith’s address on a number of occasions.
There was a degree of animosity between them.
Smith pushed past his mother, who was on the doorstep, and attacked Mr Myler, who suffered a stab wound to the side, from a large knife, which required stitches.
Judge Jonathan Durham Hall QC said the defendant was an excitable young man who had reacted in “anger, stupidity and nastiness”, taking a knife to an unarmed man.
Bradford Crown Court heard yesterday Smith feared Mr Myler was about to win the young lady’s affections. But she was now carrying his child.
Judge Durham Hall told Smith: “I accept that you lost all self control and sense of proportion.
“It’s not the case that you cold bloodedly stabbed a stranger.”
