The police have renewed calls for bicycle owners to be vigilant following a spate of thefts in the Otley area.
The message is included in the Aireborough and Wharfedale Neighbourhood Policing Team’s round-up of crimes reported in Otley and Yeadon in April.
There were 13 incidents of criminal damage along with 11 thefts from vehicles and one stolen car.
There were also six break-ins – three apiece in Otley and Yeadon – and police say bicycles are continuing to be targeted.
A spokesman said: “Due the recent number of high-value cycles that have been stolen in areas of Otley recently, can we please advise people to reconsider security.
“People are going to a lot of effort to steal these bikes and the total stands, so far, at £12,000 for six recent occurrences.”
He advised anyone with information to contact officers by calling 101.
