Tesco says it remains committed to building a store in Ilkley, despite announcing it has shelved 100 new stores planned across the country.
In a statement accompanying its preliminary results for 2012-13, the supermarket said it had identified more than 100 sites, most bought within the past decade, which it no longer plans to develop.
But the company said week it is still pressing ahead with plans for the replacement Ilkley store, off Mayfield Road and Railway Road.
Tesco gained planning permission for the store when it won an appeal in 2010, despite opposition. The site, formerly occupied by Spooner Industries, has now been cleared.
