A piece of Bradford’s history is disappearing forever as demolition of a former school nears completion.

Almost all the buildings at Wyke Manor School have been pulled down in recent weeks and the former Wyke Library has also gone.

The site is earmarked for new sports facilities.Councillor David Warburton (Wyke, Lab) said: “The future plans are ongoing for a community sports centre, which are moving very well.

“We have had consultation with the local community and are currently developing the plans a little bit more.

“It is progressing very well. Our officers have been talking with the Rugby Football League, the West Riding FA, British Cycling and British Bowls about provision on the site.”

Coun Warburton anticipated a further public consultation in “a couple of months”, and said the sports hall on site had been retained.

The Mayfield Avenue school has been replaced by the Appleton Academy. The new school was built as a through-age academy to replace Wyke Manor and High Fernley Primary School.
