An investigation into sun-beds across West Yorkshire has found more than 70 per cent failed to meet safety standards, according to trading standards bosses.
West Yorkshire trading standards officers tested sunbeds across the county. Three out of four in Bradford broke the safe level for cosmetic use by emitting too much UV radiation. Similar levels were found elsewhere in the county.
Countywide, 35 of the 51 sunbeds checked exceeded the European safe limit for ultra violet (UV) radiation, of 0.3 watts per square metre.
West Yorkshire Trading Standards said it would work with tanning salons and manufacturers to help them comply.
