The Lord Mayor of Bradford fought for attention with dragons, tigers and tortoises when he judged the entries of a school children’s competition.
Pupils at Thorpe Primary in Idle and Parkland Primary in Greengates took part in the competition to draw or make an animal which is important in Chinese culture.
Drawings of pagodas and tigers, water colour paintings of carp and models of dragons, snakes and tortoises were among the entries made by children aged five to ten.
The Lord Mayor, Councillor Dale Smith, delegated the task of choosing winners to his wife, who picked a painted dragon by Alicia Pollard, a colourful Koi carp from Ola Durlik, six, and a colourful pagoda by Kitty Townend, nine.
The winners each received a Chinese box filled with stationery.
Coun Smith also officially opened a new showroom in Greengates for Chinese furniture specialists Shimu, which moved from Saltaire.
