A workshop this Saturday will get plans to create a Fairtrade Orchard in Keighley’s Airedale shopping centre under way.
Local people will create six trees from recycled materials at a session led by community interest company Fairandfunky.
Schoolchildren will spend the next few weeks adorning the trees with leaves, animals, plants and flowers.
The pupils will learn about Fairtrade’s efforts to provide fair prices for growers in developing countries and how the products are brought to the UK.
The completed trees will be displayed at a community event in the shopping centre in June to represent olive, banana, coffee, tea, lemon and cocoa farmers.
The project is part of a campaign by local volunteers to achieve Fairtrade Town status for Keighley.
Saturday’s session is at arts group Smallworld in Russell Street from 1.30pm to 4pm.
