A town centre street in Keighley was cordoned for more than four hours after a man was found lying in the street with head injuries.
Police were called to Alice Street at 6.37am yesterday after a 42-year-old was found unconscious and bleeding on the ground. He was rushed to hospital, and shortly after 8am police cordoned off the road between the North Street Junction and Lord Street.
Uniformed officers re-directed traffic while the scene was investigated, and the cordon remained in place until shortly after noon.
Police believe the man may have had a fit or seizure, and he is currently being treated at Airedale Hospital. The incident is not being treated as suspicious, and police believe the injury was caused when the man collapsed.
A police spokesman said: “The man has been taken to hospital and enquiries are ongoing as we try to establish the cause.”
Although they do not suspect the man to have been the victim of foul play, they still have to investigate. The spokesman added: “We have to conduct initial enquiries at the scene of any incident to investigate every aspect.”
Staff at Crown Taxis, on Alice Street, said that the man had asked for a taxi shortly before he fell. Jhangir Hussain said: “I start work at 7am and when I got here there were two ambulances and a man was in one of them.
“One of the men on the night shift said he had come and asked for a taxi. A driver said he would be with him in two minutes once he finished his cup of tea. The man went outside and staff saw him fall down onto the road. They went out to help and there was blood all over the road.”
As of yesterday afternoon the man was still being treated in hospital and remained in a stable condition.
The roadblock prevented access to the Keighley News building, Crown Taxis office and the car park of the former Keighley College, where Bradford Council are working on demolishing a boiler room.
