Silsden Town Council has offered to buy three Bradford Council properties in the town for £1 each.
Town councillors want to retain Silsden Library, a disused Council office and an adjoining car park in Wesley Place as public assets.
Bradford Council hopes to spend £300,000 on a refurbishment of the town hall, paid for by selling the two buildings.
Town council chairman Chris p said the £1 offers were inspired by a similar deal for the former Odeon cinema building in Bradford.
He said: “The town council sees Wesley Place as an iconic centrepiece to Silsden, as Bradford sees the Odeon as a centrepiece of Bradford. Silsden will require more facilities, not a reduction, so they see the idea of selling off publicly-owned buildings as a retrograde step.”
