A courageous Keighley firefighter who died in the line of duty was remembered in a poignant ceremony at the town’s fire station.
At least 70 people attended the event to remember Jeff Naylor, 30 years to the day after he was fatally injured in a house fire in Keighley.
He died in hospital 10 weeks after the incident, in which he and his colleagues battled to rescue five trapped children.
Following a minute’s silence, Mr Naylor’s children, Jayne and Mark, unveiled a plaque on Keighley’s fire engine which will now be named Fireman Jeff Naylor.
Chief fire officer Simon Pilling said: “In my opinion the term ‘hero’ is often overused by certain individuals and by some in the media, but there’s no other word to describe fireman Jeff Naylor. His colleagues remember him as extremely reliable and hard working. He didn’t mind grafting one bit. We will never forget Jeff.”
