A naturalists’ group is on the lookout for someone to act as a new ‘bird recorder’, to help it continue to document species seen in the valley.
The Wharfedale Naturalists’ Society has been recording the flora and fauna in Wharfedale since the society was founded in 1946. It has a number of recorders covering various aspects of nature and wildlife, and each contribute to a report to the society’s review, which is produced annually.
The contribution on bird life in the valley has always been an important part of each year’s review, says the society. But the present bird recorder, John Flood, will be retiring at the end of this years, and his successor is now being sought.
The recorder’s job is to collate these records, query them where appropriate, and compile them for the annual report. Find out more by calling the soc iety’s president, Peter Riley, on (01943) 862916, for a preliminary chat.
