Campaigners, trade unionists and families of people killed in workplace accidents will gather in Bradford tomorrow to mark the 21st Workers Memorial Day.
Campaigners say this year’s commemoration is even more poignant after the House of Lords voted on Monday to repeal a 1898 law which had made employers automatically liable for breaches of health and safety regulations.
Now they fear the amendment to the Enterprise & Regulatory Reform Bill will put more workers’ lives at risk, reversing the recent decline in deaths and major injuries in the UK.
After tomorrow’s remembrance gathering at noon at the back of City Hall in the memorial garden there will be a free showing of Bhopali the Movie at Bradford Resource Centre in Little Germany starting at 1pm.
