A state-of-the-art gym with £100,000 of new equipment is being created at Shipley Pool to help those keen to follow in the golden footsteps of the Brownlee brothers.

The Olympic success of Alistair and Johnny, who both swam at Shipley, has inspired a boom in interest in triathlons and packed training courses are run there and at Bingley pool.

Work has started to transform the gym at Shipley which involves installing 28 new exercise machines.

Business development manager Andrew Burns said: “We are creating a flagship gym for the district with high quality machines suitable for professionals and amateurs. And we also intend to spend on improvements at Bingley as well.”
