A village has made an early start in its campaign to capitalise on the pulling power of Yorkshire’s Grand Depart stage of next year’s Tour de France.
A meeting of local organisations and bodies called by Addingham Civic Society at the village’s Fleece Inn has set the wheels in motion for the village to lay on something special for the local stages of the race on both July 5 and 6, 2014.
Varied ideas were put forward at the meeting as to how Addingham might capitalise. Future meetings will now be planned, at which a key objective will be to create a body to organise a series of events leading up to and surrounding the Tour.
Coun Adrian Naylor, who represents Addingham on Bradford Council, said the Tour should not be regarded purely as a two-day event and that the village should make the most of the event.
