Police declared war on rogue traders in a week-long crackdown aimed at protecting vulnerable people in the Skipton area from “doorstep crime.”
North Yorkshire Police and county trading standards officers targeted fraudsters who con vulnerable people into paying for unnecessary or vastly overpriced work to their homes.
Operation Rogue Trader Week Of Action saw hundreds of police officers out on the streets executing warrants, identifying vehicles used by criminals and conducting intelligence-led patrols in areas where older or vulnerable people live.
Safer Neighbourhood Teams carried out patrols, visiting older and vulnerable residents to deliver crime prevention messages.
Temporary Detective Superintendent Steve Smith said: “Rogue traders and bogus callers pose a threat to communities in how they prey on the elderly and vulnerable.”
Householders who suspect a rogue trader is at the door should call the police on 999.
Anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of any distraction burglar or rogue trader should ring North Yorkshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
